
DIKA Estudio designed Caterpillar’s Málaga headquarters to embody authenticity, strength, and respect through high-quality materials, geometric influences from the logo, and functional layout reflecting the brand’s values.
The interior design project for Caterpillar’s headquarters in Málaga, carried out by DIKA Estudio, focused on reflecting the brand’s core values: authenticity, strength, and respect. These principles were translated into the space through high-quality materials, refined finishes, and a geometry inspired by Caterpillar’s logo, where the characteristic triangular inclination subtly guides many of the interior design elements.
The layout of the 540 m² office was designed after analyzing the company’s internal operations and organizational structure. The office features two entrances: a main one for clients and visitors and a secondary one connecting to an Andalusian patio, around which other spaces and departments are organized. Inside, the floor plan consists of three longitudinal bands. The perimeter bands, located next to the windows, accommodate workstations arranged in groups by department. The central band houses executive offices, meeting rooms, and phone booths, essential for the efficient operation of an open-plan office.
Special attention was given to the axis connecting the two entrances, designing it as a corporate pathway capable of intensely transmitting the brand’s values through spatial experience, achieving the sought-after ‘WOW effect’ requested by the clients from the outset.
Respect, another key value of Caterpillar, is reflected in the design by prioritizing the comfort of clients, employees, and visitors. Material references to the construction industry were incorporated, such as asphalt-effect carpets, stone-like poufs, and vertical finishes evoking the massive wheels of Caterpillar machinery. Additionally, sustainable materials, including recycled PET plastic components, were used, demonstrating a commitment to environmental responsibility.
Caterpillar’s corporate yellow, combined with gray tones, was strategically applied to visually and functionally structure the space. Branding elements, vegetation, and decorative accents in yellow reinforce Caterpillar’s identity through effective spatial branding.
This project received the AAD First Prize for Best Product 2018 for the design of the Caterpillar Phonebox and was a finalist in the Best Space 2018 category by the Andalusian Designers Association.
In summary, the interior design of Caterpillar’s Málaga offices is an example of how architecture and design can reflect and enhance a brand’s identity and values, creating functional spaces that align with its corporate philosophy.
